IPOA Unveils Police Scorecard In August Polls

Following nationwide monitoring during the electioneering period, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority issued a scorecard on police conduct.

The report focuses on the conduct of the police during the electioneering period and makes recommendations for performance improvement, including to other State agencies.

The National Police Service received a significant boost after agreeing to “coordination, cooperation, and collaboration” with other agencies to ensure a secure and peaceful electioneering period in 2022.

It was one of the highlights of the official unveiling of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority’s final report on police conduct before, during, and after the election.

Today, the Board, led by Chairperson Anne Makori, was joined by other government and non-governmental organizations in the release of the IPOA Monitoring Report on Police Conduct during the 2022 General Election.

It establishes, among other things, that incidents of police misconduct were greatly reduced compared to a similar electioneering period in 2017 when police actions resulted in the deaths of 27 people and the injuries of 75 others.

In the most recent polls, no fatalities were reported.

With better organization, the Authority investigated nine incidents, including shootings, beatings, and attempted rape.

Furthermore, the report advocates for improved officer welfare during deployment, including adequate allowances, meals, and transportation.
