The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is questioning eight police officers involved in a fatal shooting incident in Kisumu on Tuesday.
According to Kisumu County Police Commander Alphonse Wambua, the officers were locked up yesterday, and IPOA officers have already taken up the case this morning.
The officers were presented for statement taking today at the IPOA Kisumu offices, where they will await the next steps in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the two other male victims admitted to Kisumu County Hospital underwent a successful operation to remove the bullets lodged in their bodies.
The other male patient (32) admitted to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital is also stable after a similar procedure and the removal of one bullet head from his body.
The family of the deceased girl, a student at Simeru mixed secondary school, is also awaiting the results of a postmortem examination at the Kisumu county hospital where the body is being kept.
The shooting incident sparked outrage in the lakeside city yesterday, with locals and leaders calling for action against the officers involved.
Traffic officers were pursuing a matatu driver who had refused to stop, and when they arrived in the Juakali area, they requested backup to contain a crowd that had already gathered in support of the Matatu driver.
