IPOA, Internal Affairs launch probe into Gachagua’s Witima ACK church attack

Authorities have launched investigations into the attack at Witima ACK Church, with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the National Police Service Internal Affairs Unit jointly handling the case.

Central Regional Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha confirmed that investigative teams from the two agencies have been deployed to the scene and have been working since the incident occurred.

He said the teams are collecting evidence and recording witness statements as part of efforts to establish the circumstances that led to the attack.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring that the truth is established and appropriate action taken,” Nkanatha said.

He assured the public that the government would not tolerate incidents targeting places of worship, stressing the State’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of religious institutions.

Nkanatha further noted that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law, adding that authorities are determined to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents in the region.

The outcome of the investigations by IPOA and the Internal Affairs Unit is expected to inform further action by the relevant authorities as calls for accountability continue.
