Tensions in the Middle East have dramatically escalated after Iran launched a barrage of over 40 ballistic missiles at northern and central Israel, hours after the U.S. and Israeli forces carried out a devastating airstrike on three Iranian nuclear facilities.
The Iranian retaliation left at least 86 people injured, according to Israel’s Health Ministry. Of those hospitalized, two were reported to be in moderate condition, while 77 sustained minor injuries. Residential areas in Tel Aviv and the nearby town of Nes Ziona were among the hardest hit, with hundreds of homes damaged.
In Haifa, an Israeli air defense interceptor malfunctioned during the attack and crashed into a residential zone, injuring several civilians and causing property damage.
Iran’s foreign minister, speaking to state media, warned that Tehran viewed the U.S.-Israel joint operation as a “declaration of war” and vowed further retaliation unless attacks ceased. “There is no red line they have not crossed,” he said.
The current escalation traces back to June 13, when Israel launched precision strikes on Iranian nuclear infrastructure, followed by U.S. support days later under “Operation Midnight Hammer.” The joint operation targeted Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities — causing significant damage, according to U.S. defense officials.
Since then, the two nations have traded deadly blows. At least 25 people have died in Israel, local media report, while Iran claims 430 casualties from Israeli airstrikes, a figure that remains unverified.
