While Kenyans were busy following the bedroom wars between Orange Democratic Movement and rival Jubilee Party, Detectives from the DCI secretly summoned Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa.

Hon. Jumwa is being investigated for allegedly embezzling funds and abuse of office, in relation to lost CDF funds amounting to 57 Million shillings.

In the damning investigations by the Economic Crimes Department in the DCI, Documents prepared by the police reveal that the MP’s two children were actively implicated in the scandal through their company Kaseru Construction Ltd.

Four companies allegedly mentioned in the scandal, recieved a total of 312 Million shillings through altered tenders that were allegedly processed through Aisha Jumwa.

Aisha Jumwa then suspiciously recieved 57 Million deposited in her account.

According to Citizen Digital, the DCI is investigating other transactions including withdrawals of Ksh. 46 Million from a Cooperative Bank account operated by Jumwa’s son Karisa.

The same account was allegedly used to transfer another Ksh. 5 Million to Likoni MP Hamisi and Ksh.15 Million to Jumwa. Jumwa’s daughter is alleged to have received Ksh. 40 Million from the same account.

A second company—Gadu Stores– also said to be run by Jumwa’s son, was listed in the DCI statement.

He is apparently the sole proprietor of the company that was registered on April 11, 2014 and allegedly contracted to supply ECD furniture to Kilifi County.

An account at Equity Bank under the company’s name reportedly received Ksh. 30 Million from the county. Ksh.4 Million from this account was then allegedly transferred to Jumwa via RGTS.

“From the foregoing, it is clear that there was collusion to embezzle public funds and there was major conflict of interest on the part of Aisha Jumwa Karisa,” the document from the Economic and Commercial Crimes Unit reads.

While addressing the media, Jumwa’s lawyer denied the allegations claiming that the ongoings of CDF funds are strictly a national government issue.

The once bubbly ODM crusader and key aids to Raila Odinga who shifted towards the Jubilee camp is now facing the judiciary on acts of violence during the Ganda Ward by-elections and now the CDF funds investigations.

It is unclear as to how Aisha Jumwa managed to be dragged into murky political waters, and whether she will remain strong to cordon off her position in coastal region politics.
