Israel has escalated its offensive against Hezbollah by launching “limited, localized, and targeted ground raids” in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Tuesday.
The operation, aimed at neutralizing Hezbollah infrastructure, comes amid heightened tensions along Israel’s northern border.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signaled readiness for a larger ground operation, asserting the military would use air, sea, and land forces if necessary.
He highlighted the immediate threat posed by Hezbollah to Israeli communities.
Hezbollah’s deputy leader responded by stating that the group is prepared for any Israeli offensive, warning that a ground assault could lead to a prolonged conflict.
Hezbollah has been building up its military infrastructure just across the border, and both sides have experienced casualties in recent clashes.
Lebanon’s army has reportedly pulled back its troops from the southern border, creating a buffer as Israel ramps up its military presence.
The conflict, which began after Hezbollah fired rockets following the war in Gaza, has displaced thousands and drawn international calls for a ceasefire, including from the U.S. President Joe Biden.
With rising casualties on both sides, the international community is urging restraint, as the possibility of a wider regional conflict looms.
