Israeli Airstrikes Hit Iran’s State Broadcaster Headquarters in Tehran

Israeli airstrikes have reportedly struck the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) in Tehran, disrupting television and radio signals to millions of Iranians across the country and beyond.

The strike, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, is part of what the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described as a broader campaign targeting “military infrastructure” inside Iran.

While the IRIB is not classified as a weapons facility, it serves as a key pillar of Iran’s state-controlled communications, often used to broadcast official narratives, military statements, and wartime messaging.

Footage shared on social media appeared to show smoke rising from the IRIB complex, which sits near several key government and military buildings in central Tehran. Witnesses reported hearing a series of loud blasts followed by a temporary blackout of national television and radio channels.

Iranian officials have yet to issue a detailed statement, though state media confirmed the “temporary disruption” of services and acknowledged that “an external act of aggression” had targeted their broadcasting facilities. Unconfirmed reports suggest that there were casualties, but figures remain unclear.

In a brief statement, the IDF said: “Today, the Israeli Air Force conducted a precise strike based on intelligence targeting a communication center that was being used for military purposes by the Iranian Armed Forces.

“The building was used by the Iranian Armed Forces under the guise of civilian activity, covering up the military use of the center’s infrastructure and assets.”

“Prior to the strike, the IDF provided an effective advanced warning to the civilian population, including phone calls, to mitigate harm to civilians as far as feasible.”

The escalation marks a significant deepening of tensions between the two regional powers, coming after months of tit-for-tat strikes, cyberattacks, and covert operations.

It is the first known strike by Israel directly targeting a high-profile civilian media institution in the heart of Iran’s capital.

This is a developing story.
