On Thursday evening, dozens of Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian village of Jit, near Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.
The settlers, some masked, set fire to houses and cars, hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that a local villager in his early 20s was killed, and another person was critically injured.
Israeli political leaders swiftly condemned the violence.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that those responsible would be prosecuted, while President Isaac Herzog labeled the attackers an “extreme minority” that harms Israel’s global standing.
The IDF reported that its forces were deployed “within minutes,” dispersing the attackers by shooting in the air and removing them from the village.
One Israeli national was detained in connection with the incident.
The attack has drawn international condemnation.
A White House National Security Council spokesperson called the settlers’ actions “unacceptable” and urged Israeli authorities to protect all communities and hold the perpetrators accountable.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the West Bank, where settler violence has escalated amidst the broader Israel-Hamas conflict.
