Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has opined on the truce reached between President William Ruto and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga.
“It should never be about who is right or who is wrong. It must always be about our Homeland and the interest of its people,” Kindiki said on Monday in a statement via Twitter.
President Ruto and Raila have agreed to engage in dialogue to avert anarchy by resolving the stalemate over the process of recruiting electoral commissioners in Parliament.
Following the truce, Raila’s Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party called off the fourth round of protests scheduled for Monday, but warned of a resumption of the protests if the government fails to form the bipartisan parliamentary committee immediately.
According to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, police officers are still on high alert for people planning to cause chaos in the name of peaceful protests.
“Aware that hooligans who were set to take advantage of the chaos to loot and steal could still be prepared to continue, our security officers are vigilant and on full alert,” Gachagua said.
