Police officers from Makongeni Police Station on patrol in the Kang’oki area of Thika arrested a man suspected of being in possession of bhang at around midday.
According to police reports, the officers, led by Corporal Alfred, acted on a tip-off from members of the public who alleged that the suspect was involved in selling cannabis.
The officers proceeded to the said residence and, from a distance, detected the strong scent of bhang.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Nyakundi, was found outside the house. Upon spotting the officers, Nyakundi attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of 28 rolls of bhang and an additional 2 grams of loose cannabis.
The substances were taken to Makongeni Police Station and later forwarded to government chemists for analysis. The government chemist confirmed that the substances were indeed bhang.
During court proceedings, the prosecution presented the exhibit memo, alongside the 28 rolls of bhang, as evidence in the case against Nyakundi.
In his defence, Nyakundi claimed that the cannabis was for personal use and not intended for distribution or sale.
He is currently facing charges as the case proceeds.
