The brother to slain Starlet Wahu Mwangi, Julius Njoroge, today took the stand and provided a heartbreaking testimony of how he positively identified his late sister’s body at the City Mortuary following her tragic murder on January 3, 2024.
Njoroge recounted the events surrounding the discovery of his sister’s death, telling the court that on January 4, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., he received devastating news from his brother, Jackson Mwangi, who informed him that Wahu had been murdered.
The following day, Njoroge, accompanied by his brother-in-law Richard Mwangi, went to the City Mortuary where he identified Wahu’s body.
Njoroge also witnessed the post-mortem examination, which revealed visible injuries on Wahu’s body, specifically on one of her thighs and her neck.
“The injuries were evident,” Njoroge told the court during his testimony before Justice Alexander Muteti. “It was painful to see my sister in such a state.”
John Matara, the accused in the case, faces charges for the murder of Wahu Mwangi, a popular figure in the entertainment industry, who was found dead at an apartment in Nairobi’s South B area. Matara was formally charged on February 2, 2024, with the murder of the late starlet, a charge he has denied.
As part of the ongoing trial, fourteen witnesses are expected to testify, shedding more light on the circumstances surrounding Wahu’s death. The hearing is scheduled to continue on March 11, 2025.
