High Court Saves Embattled Nairobi County Secretary Musumba

The high court temporarily halts the ouster and replacement of Nairobi County Assembly’s acting county Secretary Jairus Musumba.

This comes after Justice John Chigiti issued orders on quashing the Nairobi City County Assembly’s decision to decline his nomination.

He also issued conservatory orders preventing the Nairobi County Assembly from debating, examining, or acting on the report on the vetting of the nominee for the office of County Secretary.

This comes after California MCA Hashim Kamau filed an urgent application.

On March 15, 2023, Nairobi MCAs assessed and rejected county secretary nominee Jairus Musumba.

Musumba had been before the county assembly appointments committee for vetting the morning and was rejected in the afternoon.

According to the appointment Committee’s report, the MCAs did not didn’t find him suitable for the position.

As a result, the assembly gave Sakaja I4 days to nominate another candidate for the position.

The California MCA who filed the application said the process to vet and reject Musumba’s nomination was rushed.

He explained that the report was tabled on the floor of the assembly two hours after the vetting process ended, not giving ample time for the MCAs to go through it properly.
