Java Security Guard Reinstated After Going Viral For ‘Hiding Protesters’

A security guard who went viral for allowing anti-government protesters to take refuge inside a Java House outlet in Nairobi, has been commended and reinstated by the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) and his employer, Hatari Security.

The PSRA CEO, Fazul Mahamed, issued a letter of appreciation to Vincent Chepkwony, recognizing his “remarkable dedication and service” in the private security industry.

The authority also ordered Hatari Security to reinstate Chepkwony to his role as a security guard with immediate effect.

This comes after reports emerged that Chepkwony had been fired by Hatari Security. However, the company denied these claims, stating that Chepkwony was absent since June 25 and had not been moved to another location.

“Your unwavering commitment, exceptional professionalism, and strict compliance with the legal standards have been instrumental in promoting the development of the private security industry in Kenya.”

Chepkwony’s heroic act during the protests sparked widespread acclaim, and he has now been awarded the highest commendation and recognition for a Private Security Officer in Kenya for his bravery and commitment to duty.

The PSRA CEO emphasized that Chepkwony’s actions were “heroic, patriotic, and commendable” and warranted a promotion, not dismissal.

“Mr. Chepkwony has subsequently been awarded the highest commendation and recognition for a Private Security Officer in Kenya for his bravery and unwavering commitment to duty. His reinstatement stands as a testament to the core values that uphold the private security industry in Kenya”
