The Political Parties Tribunal has been urged to restore sanity to the Jubilee Party administration by reinstating Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary General and policy leader of the former ruling party.
Kioni’s lawyers, Mbuthi Gathenji and Jackson Awele asked the tribunal to overturn the February 2023 decision that removed him from the leadership of the Jubilee party.
Gathenji told the Desma Nungo-led tribunal that Kioni was kicked off the Jubilee party’s leadership and membership in a clandestine manner.
He told the tribunal that Kioni was never given the opportunity to defend himself against the allegations that led to his dismissal as SG.
Kioni stated that the party’s National Executive Committee lacks the authority to deal with issues involving party officials. According to the political party’s constitution, the National Delegates Convention has disciplinary authority over the party’s top officials.
The party hierarchy protocols, according to Kioni, were not followed when a purported decision to remove him as SG was made.
He informed the tribunal that the SG, who happens to be him (Kioni), has the sole authority to call for any business on behalf of the party.
Kioni’s team told the tribunal that any other business called by any other persons rather than the SG is null and void.
