Jeremiah Kioni: UhuRuto Government Deal Is Fake News

President William Ruto’s unexpected visit to former President Uhuru Kenyatta on December 9, 2024, has ignited widespread speculation of a potential political “handshake.”

The meeting, officially described as a discussion on “national and regional matters,” has fueled rumors of a looming alliance ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Reports suggest Uhuru could join a “super broad-based government,” with his allies potentially securing Cabinet positions, including the vacant Interior Ministry.

However, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni dismissed claims of a political pact, emphasizing Uhuru’s preference for fostering a vibrant opposition.

“Uhuru does not believe in co-opting opposition figures into government,” Kioni stated. “Consulting leaders outside government was part of his leadership style, not an alliance.”

The meeting has sparked mixed reactions.

Allies of impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua criticized the summit, labeling it an attempt by Ruto to regain political footing in the Mt. Kenya region.

Embakasi North MP James Gakuya warned against Uhuru’s involvement, urging him to “retain his respect” and avoid alienating Mt. Kenya voters.

Amid the political buzz, former CS Moses Kuria has called on Ruto, Uhuru, and Raila Odinga to unite and chart a path toward constitutional reform.
