Prominent businessman and former presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi has unveiled a bold plan to push for early elections in Kenya, well before the scheduled 2027 date.
In a recent interview on Citizen TV, Wanjigi outlined his strategy, which he claims is grounded in a thorough understanding of the Kenyan Constitution and a commitment to tackling the nation’s economic issues.
Wanjigi, who ran for president in 2022, stressed that his proposal is intentional and rooted in a calculated approach.
“I am a very intentional person,” he said, reflecting on his previous campaign efforts. His new plan involves a detailed script aligned with Kenya’s Constitution, specifically citing Articles 1, 2, and 3.
These articles emphasize the sovereignty of the people, the supremacy of the Constitution, and the right to elect leaders directly or through representatives.
According to Wanjigi, this constitutional framework could facilitate elections before 2027.
He also emphasized the principle of accountability, asserting that even a sitting president can be challenged and removed by the electorate if necessary.Â
Wanjigi’s comments follow recent police raids on his home, which unsuccessfully sought to locate him. His proposal highlights his ongoing commitment to democratic processes and accountability in Kenyan governance.
