JKIA Terminal 2 To Be Closed Ahead Of Jill Biden’s Kenya Visit

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will be disrupted ahead of the visit of US First Lady Jill Biden.

Kenya Airport Authority issued a statement announcing the closure of Terminal Two at JKIA on Friday and Sunday at specific hours.

“JKIA will be facilitating a VVIP movement in the course of this month,” reads the letter dated February 20, 2023.

To that end, Terminal 2 should be cleared of all aircraft and vehicles on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

At the same time, the same terminal will be cleared of the same on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As a result of the VVIP movement, KAA has advised JKIA stakeholders to relocate their operations to terminal one within the timeframe specified in order to facilitate Jill Biden’s visit smoothly.

This will be Jill Biden’s first visit to the country since her husband, Joe Biden, was elected President of the United States.

During her visit, she will meet and interact with those affected by the drought and facing food insecurity.

“Then in Kenya, I will hear from those affected by the ongoing historic drought and food insecurity, which has been exacerbated by the ripple effects of Russia’s assault on Ukraine,” she said.

Terminal 2 at the JKIA cost Sh1.7 billion and was inaugurated in April 2015 by Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The addition of the state-of-the-art prefabricated terminal increases JKIA’s capacity to 7.5 million passengers per year, up from the estimated 6.5 million passengers who pass through the airport.

It was originally designed to alleviate overcrowding.
