Job Fixer In Court Over Saudi Fraud

The inhumane suffering of Kenyan citizens in Arab Countries has been the talk of the day in the recent past.

Today 16th December 2021 Milka Gathoni Mwangi appeared before Milimani Magistrate. She was accused of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to section 313 of the penal code.

Particulars of the offence were, on the 10th February 2020 in Nairobi the accused defrauded a sum of Ksh 83,000 from Roselyne Osengo Amatsieku. She had promised to secure Roselyne a job in Saudi Arabia, a fact that the accused knew to be false.

It was the prosecution submission that the accused proceeded to block Roselyne Osengo after the final transaction was made an act that forced her to report to police.

The accused was arrested on 15th December 2021 and produced before the Court today. She pleaded guilty of the offence. In her mitigation, she pleaded for a lenient punishment. The trial Court thwarted her mitigation and ordered her to be taken back to custody awaiting sentencing.

The Kenya foreign ministry says 89 Kenyans, most of them domestic workers, have died in Saudi Arabia in the past two years.

The abuse of foreign domestic workers has long been a problem in the Gulf State.

Appearing before the parliamentary committee, foreign affairs principal secretary Macharia Kamau was quoted saying the deaths of Kenyans in Saudi Arabia were suspicious.

However, Kenyans have continued to seek entry in Saudi Arabia through Back door methods hence falling victims to fraud from Cartels.
