Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a suspected fraudster accused of conning a Kenyan woman working in Lebanon by posing as the personal assistant to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
The suspect, identified as Abraham Kimeli, popularly known on TikTok as “City Tycoon”, allegedly defrauded the victim of Ksh.130,000 with the promise of securing her a lucrative government job once she returned home.
According to the DCI, the victim first encountered Kimeli in February 2024 on the social media platform, where he gained her trust before introducing himself as a senior government insider. He allegedly presented himself as Koskei’s aide and shared documents purportedly from the Public Service Commission (PSC) to bolster his credibility.
“With charm and confidence, the fraudster provided his mobile number and painted a false image of himself as a key player in government affairs. He crafted a convincing narrative about a job opportunity, complete with a seemingly legitimate PSC document,” the DCI said in a statement.
Investigations revealed that the victim, persuaded by the elaborate scheme, sent the money through Western Union with the help of her employer, only to later realize she had been duped.
DCI detectives trailed the suspect using forensic investigations before arresting him. He is currently in custody and will be arraigned once legal procedures are complete.
Authorities have cautioned the public against falling victim to online job scams, urging Kenyans to verify employment opportunities directly through official government channels.
