Borussia Dortmund may have found their next midfield gem and he happens to share a surname with one of Europe’s finest.
Jobe Bellingham, younger brother of Real Madrid star Jude, has arrived in Germany for a reported €33m fee and wasted little time in making an impression.
The 19-year-old scored and registered an assist in the Club World Cup, prompting a wave of praise from German media, who have anointed him as the club’s “next English star.” Yet despite the inevitable comparisons, Bellingham is determined to forge his own path.
“I want to be one of Europe’s best midfielders,” he told Kicker. “I want to turn my strengths into super strengths. I know this club’s track record in developing players.”
While Jude’s move to Dortmund in 2020 helped launch a meteoric rise, culminating in a Ballon d’Or nomination at Real Madrid, Jobe appears unfazed by the pressure of the family name. “I don’t want to be a superstar—it doesn’t suit me. I’d rather be a machine, a top-level player,” he said, showcasing a calm maturity beyond his years.
Dortmund, known for nurturing talent before selling at a premium, may have struck gold again. The club is rebuilding after another near-miss in the Bundesliga title race and sees Bellingham as a central piece in their new project.
“You join this club for big results,” Jobe added. “Dortmund’s rich in success—like the Champions League final. I want to win titles, develop, and bring joy to fans.”
Whether he matches or even surpasses his brother’s achievements remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Jobe Bellingham is not just riding coattails—he’s already stepping into his own spotlight.
