Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has come out strongly in defense of President William Ruto, criticizing opposition leaders for attacking the administration despite having failed to deliver during their time in power.

Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Taita Taveta County on Thursday, Joho accused President Ruto’s critics of hypocrisy, pointing out that many had previously held influential government positions, including deputy presidents, cabinet secretaries, and attorney generals, yet failed to bring meaningful change.

“All those opposing President Ruto, every single one of them, have held high-ranking government positions. If they didn’t deliver then, what can they offer now?” Joho posed, questioning the credibility of the opposition’s agenda.

He praised President Ruto’s development track record, citing the successful implementation of key projects across the country. Joho called on Kenyans, particularly those from the coastal region, to rally behind Ruto’s leadership and support his re-election bid in 2027.

“As Coast leaders, we are fully behind President Ruto. Let’s support him all the way to 2027 and ensure he secures a second term. Even we from the Coast aspire to lead this nation someday, but that chance can only come if we help President Ruto finish his 10 years first,” he said.

Reaffirming his place in the current administration, Joho noted that he, together with other coastal leaders such as Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, are working in unison to advance the region’s development priorities within the broader government framework.

“We have no quarrel with the President. I am firmly in government, at the headquarters. Together with fellow Coast leaders, we are working for the benefit of our people,” he added.

Joho dismissed ongoing political wrangles as mere distractions and urged the opposition to allow President Ruto to implement his mandate without unnecessary interference.
