Jorginho Sacrifice Steered Chelsea — Tuchel

Jorginho “sacrificed himself” for Chelsea, according to manager Thomas Tuchel, after the midfielder netted two penalties against Leeds United, including a thrilling stoppage-time winner.

Tuchel’s team remained two points behind Manchester City after the Italy international’s second penalty after 94 minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Despite suffering from a back issue, Jorginho played the entire encounter.

Tuchel acknowledged that he was aware that the “time would arrive when he suffers.”

Following a season in which he won the European Championship with Italy and the Champions League with his club, the midfielder was named Uefa Men’s Player of the Year.

Jorginho’s 56-game 2020-21 season finished on July 11 with Italy’s victory over England, and he returned to action for Chelsea in the European Super Cup on August 11.

If he plays in Chelsea’s next five games, the 29-year-old may end the calendar year with a total of 66 appearances.
