Mrima, Mwita Make the Cut as Judicial Service Commission Shortlists 35 for Court of Appeal Vacancies (FULL LIST)

Kenya’s Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has unveiled 35 names shortlisted for interviews to fill 15 coveted vacancies at the Court of Appeal.

According to a statement released in October, the commission received 94 applications following a June 9 advertisement, whittling the list down after a thorough eligibility review.

Among the heavyweights eyeing the bench are Justices Joseph Kiplagat Sergon, Joel Ngugi, Grace Ngenye Macharia, Hedwig Ong’undi, Anthony Mrima, and Asenath Ongeri.

Also in the running are Justices Oscar Amugo Angote and Chacha Mwita, alongside legal minds like Prof. Migai Akech and Dr. Joseph Arimba Kaberia, a blend of seasoned judges, academics, and practitioners.

Interviews will be held at the CBK Pension Towers in Nairobi, with the public invited to submit views on the candidates’ suitability before proceedings begin.

The appointments are expected to ease the Court of Appeal’s crushing caseload and reinforce confidence in Kenya’s judiciary, which remains under the microscope for both speed and integrity.

The JSC insists the recruitment will be “transparent, merit-based and regionally balanced,” promising that only the most qualified will take the coveted appellate seats.
