Peter Mwathi, a member of Parliament from Limuru, has been elected without opposition to chair the influential National Security and Administration Committee.
He will succeed the late Kiambaa lawmaker Paul Koinange.
Mwathi, who is new to the commission, was appointed after the Jubilee party and Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supported his nomination.
“Koinange has left some big shoes, I can only try and fit in them, and that with your assistance and your support we will be able to move the agenda that we have, the agenda that was outstanding, and the agenda that will come, and not only that but that we will be able to oversight because that is our role,” Mwathi said.
Fatuma Gedi, a Wajir Woman Representative, was eyeing the role but did not return her nomination papers.
