Juja MP George Koimburi charged with forging academic papers, freed on Sh500,000 cash bail

“The Law does not forget” Kiambu Law Courts reminds Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.

Hon. George Koimburi Ndungo today had a tough day in court as the court took him through his conduct in a previous case which the Court said goes contrary to the primary consideration for grant of bail.

The prosecution had vehemently objected for the release of the Law Maker on bond, urging the court to lock him in prison awaiting the conclusion of his criminal case.

He appeared at the Kiambu Law Courts on Wednesday, where he faced six counts of forging academic certificates and another count for failing to attend court on numerous dates.

The charges include forging a Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) certificate to secure a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and forging certificates from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) between 2011 and 2012.

The prosecution told court that Koimburi was arrested and charged with forgery in 2021 where he absconded court and warrants of arrest were issued against him.

Those warrants according to the DPP were never effected forcing his office to withdraw the charges under section 87 A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The Prosecution told Court that Koimburi defied court directives on April 6, 2022, May 9, 2022, June 9, 2022 and August 29, 2022.

The DPP then withdrew the charges on account of the unavailability of the accused person and his cash bail was forfeited to the state and warrants of arrest issued against him.

The DPP said that those warrants remained in force for the last three years until it was executed on February 18, 2025.

In giving Koimburi a second chance to reclaim his character before the seat of Justice, Principal Magistrate M. Sudi said that his character and antecedent show a likelihood of re-offending.

The Court proceeded to say that the right to set bail is at the discretion of the court and must be exercised depending on the circumstances.

The Court noted that police inordinately delayed in arresting Koimburi after the warrants of arrest were issued in 2022 although they knew or ought to have known where to find him being a public figure.

“With the current ongoings however, the court believes the accused has learnt his lesson that the law does not forget.” said Hon.M Sudi.

The Court ruled that his offences are bailable contrary to what the prosecution alluded and released him on Ksh 500,000 cash bail.
