Angry residents of Nyacaba village in Juja sub-county obstructed police officers from collecting the body of a middle-aged woman who was mauled to death by suspected hyenas on Saturday morning.
The woman is said to have been walking from Nyacaba village to the Ndarugu coffee plantation when she was attacked by the animals.
Residents, led by John Mwangi, demanded that the police track down the hyenas before collecting the body.
“Huwa wanakuja kuchukua mwili wanatuwachia fisi, leo tunataka waende na zote, fisi na mwili, tumechoka!,” he said.
The body of the woman was still lying at the scene, 10 metres away from the road connecting Nyacaba and the busy Thika road by the time of going to press.
Another group of residents also blocked the super highway on both sides at Ndarugu area, protesting the attacks by killer wild animals.
Last Saturday, a nine-year-old grade six boy was buried, a week after he was attacked and killed by hyenas.
The residents are now warning the Kenya Wildlife Service officers to hunt down the animals or else they kill them.
