The Supreme Court has ordered Attorney General Justin Muturi and a tribunal that recommended the firing of Judge Juma Chitembwe to reply to his appeal within 14 days.
On Monday, March 7, 2023, the supreme court’s Registrar Bernard Kasavuli also asked suspended judge Chitembwe to complete filling his appeal paperwork and evidence by the close of business on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
Kasavuli gave orders after Chitembwe’s counsel, Peter Wena, requested extra time to complete uploading the whole record of appeal in the Judiciary internet site.
“Thus far, we have six volumes of papers, images, and films that have yet to be posted to the e-portal. We are asking for more time to finish the task “Wena implored.
Kasavuli ordered that the case be heard on March 27, 2023, to confirm compliance with the filing of replies by the AG and the Tribunal, as well as the allocation of the case to the judges designated by the Chief Justice or her deputy.
In his appeal, Judge Chitembwe requests that the Supreme Court overturn the verdict of a 12-member tribunal chaired by Justice Mumbi Ngugi and enable him to resume duty.
