Junior Secondary Teacher Arraigned for Allegedly Impersonating President Ruto’s Daughter

A Junior Secondary School teacher has been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi over allegations of impersonating President William Ruto’s daughter on social media.

Samwel Mogwasi Mainga was arrested on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in Mombasa County on suspicion of violating the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.

According to an affidavit filed at the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court, lead investigator P.C. Peter Mwangi stated that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has requested additional time to gather critical evidence, including information from the suspect’s social media accounts and further witness statements.

Authorities also raised concerns that Mainga could be a flight risk, citing the fact that his residence has yet to be verified.

As a result, police requested the court to grant them seven more days to hold the teacher in custody to complete their investigations.

However, the teacher’s lawyer, Advocate Danstan Omari, opposed the request. He told the court that Mainga is a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission and has a known place of residence, arguing that he does not pose a flight risk.

During cross-examination, Omari highlighted that Mainga was arrested while accompanying students on an academic trip to the coast, leaving the pupils stranded.

The teacher is currently being held at the Capital Hill Police Station in Nairobi as the court is set to rule on the custodial application on April 11, 2025.
