Kabete Polytechnic Student Freed After Sonko Withdraws Impersonation Case

Reprieve to Kabete National Polytechnic Student accused of impersonating former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko after Sonko moves to court and withdrawing the criminal charge against the student for fraudulently Facebook account under his name.

The said student Tyson Kibet, 23, admitted in Court that his actions, which included using the fake account to deceive people and showcase explicit content for financial gain, were driven by his desire financial gain and not intended to damage Sonko’s name.

The former Nairobi County boss informed Senior Principal Magistrate Onsarigo at Milimani Law Courts that his move was accelerated by the fact that the student’s parents could not afford the KSh 1 million bond required for bail hence it was meaningless to keep the boy in custody.

He also stated that he was forgiving Kibet voluntarily and without any conditions.

He revealed that he learnt about Kibet after getting numerous complaints from members of the Public.

The student had spent two months in prison as his parents could not afford the bond terms set by the Court.

The Court allowed the application and discharged the accused student unconditionally.

In thanking Sonko, Kibet said he will never repeat the same offence and that he will be a law abiding citizen.

He pleaded with Sonko to help him secure a job to cater for his financial needs.

The prosecution had alleged that Kibet on November 25, 2023, at unknown place within the republic of Kenya, intentionally created the said Facebook account with an intent to defraud Kenyans using Mike Sonko’s credentials.
