Three people were injured on Monday evening when Tharaka Nithi Deputy Governor Nyamu Kagwima’s vehicle collided with a rock and overturned in Karuguyuni, Tharaka constituency.
According to witnesses, the driver of the vehicle, which was equipped with a public address system, veered off the road and collided with a rock while driving down a slope.
Brendan Nyamu, Mr Kagwima’s son, stated that the vehicle’s brakes failed and the driver was unable to control it.
Villagers rushed the three occupants to Chiakariga dispensary before they were transferred to Marimanti Sub-County Hospital, he said.
According to Mr Nyamu, the driver and one of the other occupants were treated and released, while the other was admitted with a head injury.
The vehicle was returning from Chiakariga market, where Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka had held a public rally to rally support for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Mr Kagwima, who is running on a Wiper ticket to unseat his boss, Governor Muthomi Njuki.
Recently, Tharaka Nithi Jubilee Party senatorial candidate Paul Mugambi’s vehicle, which was equipped with a public address system, was involved in an accident in the same ward.
