Kahawa Law Courts Deny Bond to Terror Suspects

The Kahawa Law Courts have denied bail to three individuals charged with terrorism-related offenses.

Principal Magistrate Gideon Kiage ruled that the severity of the allegations provided sufficient grounds to restrict the accused persons’ rights, emphasizing the seriousness of the case.

“This is a grave matter, which the defense has not contested. Considering the nature of the attack and the weight of the charges, the court finds the prosecution’s concerns to be valid and consistent with legal precedent in similar cases,” stated Magistrate Kiage.

According to court proceedings, the suspects were allegedly involved in an attack targeting Kenyan security forces, following the arrest of one of the accused, Isaq Cabdi Xasan, also known as Issack Mohammed.

The attack resulted in the death of one police officer, serious injuries to another, and the theft of two firearms.

Isaq Cabdi Xasan, a Somali national, along with Noor Yakub Ali and Yusuf Maalim, both Kenyan citizens, stand accused of conspiring to commit a terrorist act in Mandera town on or before February 18, 2025. They also face charges of being members of the proscribed terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Following their arraignment two weeks ago, Magistrate Kiage had postponed the bond ruling for 30 days to give the prosecution time to complete evidence disclosures and finalize the material they intend to present in court.
