Kahawa West Police Station Police Constable Christine Nyokabi Macharia has been arrested for allegedly demanding a Ksh. 50,000 bribe to facilitate the withdrawal of a criminal case from court.
The arrest was executed by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday, highlighting an ongoing battle against corruption within the police force.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrest, stating that Macharia was detained at Kilimani Police Station before being transferred to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station for processing.
She has since been subjected to rigorous questioning, and officials have recorded her statement as they prepare for her arraignment.
The incident raises serious concerns about integrity and accountability within law enforcement agencies. It comes in the wake of similar cases of corruption among police officers, reflecting a systemic issue that authorities are keen to address.
