The closure of Noonkopir Girls in Kajiado on Thursday was due to indiscipline among a group of girls, according to the principal.
Principal Florence Kimeu stated after an urgently convened school board of management meeting that ended on Friday night that some identified girls planned to cause mayhem if they were not released from the school.
Kimeu stated that some girls threatened to beat others if they did not leave the school on Thursday, which prompted the institution to release them in order to prevent damage to school property.
“They argued that they had finished all of the exams and couldn’t see why they couldn’t wait until next week when the schools were closed,” Kimeu explained.
She denied claims made by parents and students that lesbianism is prevalent at the school, and she added that no men broke into the school last Saturday night, as claimed.
The principal dismissed claims that some teachers in the school favor alleged lesbian students by not taking action against them when they are reported as fabrications intended to harm her administration.
“We are focused as teachers and will not allow sinister practices to take place in our institution. We have Christian and Muslim students in this school and we respect their faith,” said Kimeu.
Dr. Martin Cheruyot, the county director of education who attended the board meeting, said he investigated the matter and discovered that the crisis at the school had nothing to do with lesbianism, but that the students had set their minds for the holiday soon after finishing their end-of-term exams.
