Kakamega: 15 Buried Alive As Gold Mine Collapses

On Thursday, February 9, a goldmine caved in, burying 15 young men in Sigalagala Village in Kakamega County.

The National Police Service (NPS) revealed in a statement that eight people had been rescued, with seven still trapped beneath the rubble.

“NPS Officers and County Government Officers together with emergency response teams from the County, Red Cross, and the locals are on the scene helping with rescue mission,” read part of the statement.

The eight people who were rescued were rushed to Kakamega General Hospital in stable condition.

According to the NPS, rescue operations are currently underway.
