Kakamega County Assembly in Turmoil: ODM Leadership Reshuffle Sparks Controversy

A leadership feud is brewing in the Kakamega County Assembly after ODM party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna sent a letter to the assembly speaker proposing changes to the position of majority leader.

In his letter, the ODM party named Geofrey Ondiro Obonyo as the new majority leader, succeeding Philip Maina Ondago.

A section of the County Assembly has dismissed the move as malicious.

Addressing the media in Kakamega, the MCAs now want the party Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, to provide the meeting minutes, claiming they were not consulted.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said as the ODM County chairman, he was not consulted over the changes and therefore he is not aware of it.

“We are disappointed that people would come to interfere with the running of Kakamega County just because they are interested in supporting other candidates. We will not accept it; if one wants the governor’s seat, they should wait for 2027,” Barasa said.

He stated that there was no grounds for removing the majority leader saying the move was politically instigated to undermine him.
