Kakamega Governor Demands Justice for Slain MCA Stephen Maloba

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to fast-track investigations into the unresolved murder of Kisa East Ward MCA Stephen Maloba, who was fatally stabbed during a political rally two years ago.

Speaking during a church service at Mundaha Church of God in Kisa East Ward, Khwisero Constituency, Governor Barasa expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He urged national government agencies to act with urgency and end the long wait for accountability.

“We still want to know the truth. I will follow up with the national government to ensure justice is served for Stephen. It is now two years and no one has been arrested. We want justice for Mheshimiwa Stephen Maloba,” said Barasa, addressing a congregation that included grieving family members and local leaders.

The late Maloba was killed on April 1, 2023, during a chaotic political rally held at Munjiti in Khwisero. The event, convened by area MP Christopher Aseka, descended into violence when a group of knife-wielding individuals attacked Maloba, reportedly to prevent him from addressing the crowd.

Eyewitnesses said Maloba was stabbed in the chest and rushed to Vihiga County Referral Hospital in Mbale, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Governor Barasa reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Maloba’s family and constituents in their pursuit of justice. “I stand with the people of Kisa East and the family of the late MCA. We will walk this journey together until justice is done,” he said.

The murder, which shocked the county and drew national condemnation at the time, remains unsolved, with no arrests made to date. The governor’s remarks have reignited calls for accountability and brought renewed attention to the case, as residents continue to seek closure and justice for their fallen representative.
