Kalonzo: Even Ruto as IEBC Chair Won’t Stop Our 2027 Victory

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has sharply criticized President William Ruto for unilaterally appointing the chairperson and commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), defying the bipartisan National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

Speaking during the burial of Kariobangi North MCA, Joel Munuve in Nzeluni, Mwingi West, Kitui County, Kalonzo warned that the opposition will not accept a compromised electoral process. He revealed that he had written to both President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga on the matter but had received no response.

Accusing Ruto of undermining democratic principles, Kalonzo declared his readiness for the 2027 General Election, asserting that even if the president appointed himself as IEBC chair, he would still be defeated. “You cannot be a player and pick a referee,” he said, insisting that Kenyans would choose their leader regardless of the IEBC’s composition.

Kalonzo also emphasized the need to rescue the country from what he described as Ruto’s oppressive leadership. His sentiments were supported by DAP-K leader, Eugene Wamalwa, who accused the president of violating the spirit of dialogue and consensus achieved at the Bomas talks.

On the late MCA Munuve’s death, Kalonzo disclosed that the opposition is awaiting results from international laboratories to determine the true cause of death, despite a local autopsy indicating a blood clot. He vowed to resist any form of political assassination.

Munuve passed away on April 22, 2025.
