The coastal city of Mombasa gathered in mourning on Sunday as prominent leaders, including Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, attended the funeral service of renowned cement tycoon and philanthropist Hasmukk Patel.
The service, held at Nyali, drew a large crowd of family, friends, and dignitaries who came to pay their respects to a man whose contributions to the community were widely celebrated.
As attendees trickled in, former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and Kalonzo Musyoka were seen engaging in light discussions, reflecting on Patel’s legacy. Their camaraderie amidst the solemn occasion highlighted the unity in honoring a figure who had significantly impacted the region.
Earlier in the day, a procession commemorating Patel’s life wound through the vibrant streets of Mombasa. The body, carefully placed in a special casket and positioned upright, was removed from the Pandya Memorial Hospital morgue at 8 a.m.
The procession made its way past several Hindu temples, showcasing the cultural significance of the occasion and allowing the community to pay their respects.
Following the funeral service held at the Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj Hall, attendees prepared to accompany Patel’s body to the crematorium for the final rites.
The cremation marks the end of a life dedicated to philanthropy and development in Mombasa, where Patel was revered for his extensive contributions to various social causes and the local economy.
