Man City Intensifies Pursuit Of Kalvin Phillips

Manchester City are apparently hoping to recruit a large midfielder in this transfer window, with Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips at the top of their wishlist.

Phillips, 26, has spent his entire senior career with Leeds and succeeded on the international level, starting every game in England’s journey to the Euro 2020 final.

He was named England’s 2020-21 Senior Men’s Player of the Year for his outstanding international performance, and he may be able to turn it into Champions League football at the Etihad Stadium.

Phillips’ statistics in the past two Premier League seasons of one goal and three assists do not accurately reflect his effect, as he is perhaps England’s best defensive midfielder.

Phillips reportedly played his final game for Leeds after 12 years with the club, with The Sun reporting that City had prepared a £60 million bid.

According to ESPN, one element working in Phillips’ favor with City is that he will be considered a homegrown player for Champions League purposes, and Pep Guardiola sees him as a strong fit for both the number-six and number-eight positions in his set-up.
