The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), outlined its agenda to increase the manufacturing sector’s contribution to GDP by 20 percent by 2030 in a DUAL (Technical and Vocational Education and training) TVET Industry Task Force Report Meeting at the Sarova Panafric.
This objective, which seeks to create 1 million jobs from the present 352,000, is bolstered by an emphasis on producing a highly trained work force.
KAM emphasised its support of youth employment and industry-led skill development programmes.
KAM has been advancing youth employment via skill development and entrepreneurship since 2017.
This is through a TVET programme that enhances skill development and provides a pool of technically qualified entry- and mid-level individuals in an effort to bridge the skills mismatch and gap that are common in the industry.
When workers possess the skills, knowledge, and talents needed for their positions, they are more likely to work effectively.
Dr. Juma Mukhwana, Principal Secretary State Department for Industry; Dr. Esther Muoria, Principal Secretary State Department for TVET; and Mr. Rajiv Arora, Chair of the Task Force, were present.
