KAM Reaffirms Commitment to Safer Roads at Unilever Safety Forum

The Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) has reiterated its commitment to enhancing road safety through strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors.

Speaking during the Unilever Road Safety Forum themed “Strengthening Collaborations for Road Safety,” KAM’s Head of Policy and Regulatory Advocacy, Miriam Chepchumba, said road safety directly affects the manufacturing sector’s workforce, goods in transit, and broader economic performance.

“Our industry relies heavily on efficient and safe transport systems. That’s why partnerships between manufacturers, regulators, and road agencies are essential to reducing accidents and safeguarding livelihoods,” said Chepchumba.

KAM continues to work closely with government agencies such as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), and the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ). Through the NCAJ Committee on Traffic Reforms, the Association has supported measures such as instant fines to improve driver accountability and promote responsible road use.

The forum also highlighted the need for harmonized safety standards, secure data sharing, and stronger joint accountability among all road safety stakeholders. KAM further backs NTSA-led public awareness campaigns, especially during high-risk seasons such as holidays when accidents tend to spike.

Aligned with the United Nations Second Decade of Action for Road Safety (2021–2030), KAM has pledged to contribute to the global goal of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by 50%.

“Road safety is not the government’s responsibility alone. It is a shared duty—and only through coordinated efforts can we build safer roads for all,” added Chepchumba.
