In a statement issued from the Biden-Harris campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude and honor at receiving President Joe Biden’s endorsement, saying she intends to “earn and win” the Democratic nomination for president.
“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said. “With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.”
Harris praised Biden for his service, hailing his legacy and the “honor” of serving alongside him. She also vowed to do everything in her power to unite the Democratic Party and defeat Donald Trump in the general election.
“We will do everything in our power to unite the Democratic Party – and unite our nation – to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” she said.
With just 107 days until Election Day, Harris acknowledged the short time frame for her to consolidate her party’s support. However, she remained optimistic, saying, “Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”
Harris’s statement was issued from the Biden-Harris campaign side, not the White House, indicating that the campaign is already gearing up for a robust effort to secure the nomination. The endorsement is seen as a significant boost for Harris, who now has the full support of the former president behind her.
The announcement comes after Biden stunned the political world by withdrawing from the presidential race on Sunday, citing his desire to focus on his family and his legacy. The move clears the way for Harris to become the de facto front-runner in the Democratic primary.
