A Kampala-bound bus operated by BusCar EA Limited was involved in a road accident near Kinungi on Tuesday afternoon, the company has confirmed.
The 4pm service, registration number KDM 256P and popularly known as “Garnacho,” collided with a pick-up truck a short distance from the Rubis service station along the busy Nairobi-Naivasha highway.
In a statement, BusCar EA said all passengers aboard the coach were safely evacuated and later provided with onward transport using other buses on the same route. The company expressed sympathy to those injured in the pick-up and wished them a swift recovery.
“We are working closely with the police regarding the incident and have ensured that our passengers reached their destinations safely,” the statement read.
The crash highlights the continuing dangers along the Nairobi-Naivasha stretch, a section of road frequently cited by traffic police for congestion and speeding.
While the cause of the collision remains under investigation, road safety advocates reiterated calls for drivers to exercise caution on the highway, which forms a major link between Nairobi and western Kenya, as well as Uganda.
