Harry Kane found the net against his former club as Bayern Munich swept aside Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in a pre-season friendly on Thursday.
Kane, Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances, opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a calm finish inside the penalty area. Just two minutes later, the England captain had the chance to double Bayern’s lead from the spot after Joao Palhinha, on loan at Spurs from Bayern, conceded a penalty. However, Kane slipped and sent his shot high over the bar, his first missed penalty since England’s 2022 World Cup quarter-final defeat to France.
Kingsley Coman extended Bayern’s advantage on 61 minutes with a superb curling effort from the edge of the box. Late goals from teenage prospects Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare sealed a commanding victory for the Bundesliga champions.
Kane, who left Spurs for Bayern in a €100 million (£87 million) move in summer 2023, will now turn his focus to the UEFA Super Cup, where Bayern face Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday.
For Tottenham, the result capped an inconsistent pre-season under new head coach Thomas Frank, which has included wins over Arsenal and Reading but draws against Newcastle United, Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers.
