Kangemi Residents Vacate Road Reserves to Pave Way for Overpass Project

Residents of Kangemi are voluntarily moving out of road reserves to facilitate the completion of the Kangemi Overpass, a major infrastructure project by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

The interchange, part of the expansive Waiyaki Way improvements, aims to streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance road safety within Nairobi.

The project is seen as a key step in modernizing the city’s road network, promising significant benefits for commuters, businesses, and the Kangemi community.

Once complete, the overpass will strengthen connectivity across Nairobi, easing movement along the busy Waiyaki Way corridor.

Traffic Disruptions on Waiyaki Way

KeNHA announced planned traffic disruptions along Waiyaki Way from December 11, 2024, to January 17, 2025.

The works will be executed in two phases to minimize inconveniences to motorists.

Phase 1: From Wednesday, December 11, to Monday, December 26, Nairobi-bound traffic on the left-hand side (LHS) will be diverted to the right-hand side (RHS).

Phase 2: Details of subsequent diversions will be communicated in due course as the project progresses.

To ease the impact of the disruptions, KeNHA has devised a comprehensive traffic management plan to assist motorists navigating the affected lanes.

The Kangemi Overpass is expected to provide lasting solutions to the perennial traffic challenges experienced along Waiyaki Way, particularly in Kangemi.

The project will also improve access for local businesses, reduce travel time for commuters, and boost overall safety on this critical stretch of road.
