Kanu Reveals the Disciplinary Prosecuting Salat’s Fate

The Committee, which will be chaired by Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli, will investigate Salat's allegations of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution.

Kanu has appointed a team of six National Disciplinary Committee members to investigate the case against suspended party Secretary-General Nick Salat.

The Committee, which will be chaired by Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli, will investigate Salat’s allegations of gross misconduct and violation of the party constitution.

Ali Ogle, Joshua Mukirae, Gladwell Tungo (Vice Chairperson), Arnold Otieno (secretary), and Josephine Leado are also members.

Kanu Director of Communication Joseph Towett said in a statement on Friday that the decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) to refer Salat’s case to the Disciplinary Committee was informed by two complaints lodged against him.

“During the aforementioned meeting, Salat, visibly inebriated, made insolent remarks that belittled the person, stature, and office of the National Chairman (Gideon Moi),” he said.

Salat’s position as Secretary-General of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) was revoked on December 15, 2022.

Moi stated in a letter that the party had resolved to dismiss Salat due to allegations of misconduct.

Two complaints were lodged by the KANU MCA and PWD Caucuses through their respective Chairpersons, Handman Saya and Adinuur Ali, informing the NEC’s decision to refer Salat’s case to the Disciplinary Committee.

Salat is accused of making arrogant remarks about the National Chairman’s person, stature, and office.

He also berated the party’s long-term partner organizations in the presence of their senior international officials despite their longstanding cordial relationship and cooperation.

The announcement by KANU came after conflicting announcements by Salat in his position as the SG.
