Initially, the club only admitted registered members, their families and elite individuals from different parts of the world, maintaining its top-class status.
Following the unexpected announcement, hundreds of Kenyans took to Twitter to imagine themselves as members of the exclusive Country Club, and the memes did not disappoint.
Everyday Kenyans, who would otherwise struggle to find a seat at a table as prestigious as Karen Country Club, were inundated with ‘poor me’ memes, laughing at their own inadequacies while faced with the prospect of dining with the likes of the ‘Grand Mullah’ Ahmednasir Abdulahi, flashy lawyer Donald Kipkorir, and ultra-refined gentlemen like Githu Muigai.
Nightly rates at Karen Country Club are reported to range from Ksh19,000 to nearly Ksh60,000, depending on room services. The cost of high-end cottages varies according to the services provided. Tennis stars, honeymooners, and other tourists are among their visitors.
The former coffee estate developed by Danish pioneer Karen Blixen served as the foundation for a large portion of the 18-hole course.
The clubhouse consists of six stand-alone cottages and three apartment blocks, each with four rooms made of vintage materials with a rustic vibe and wooden ceilings that add warmth and freshness.
It has a variety of facilities to cater to different guests’ tastes and preferences. They include casual and formal dining options, meeting and conference rooms, and distinctive event grounds such as wetlands and the Mulwa dam.
Karen Country Club also has a wellness spa, swimming pool, fitness center, and well-kept gardens for chilling.
Karen Country Club has an 18-hole championship golf course, a driving range and practice facilities, a bowling green, squash courts, and tennis courts for sports enthusiasts.
