People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua on Monday made an emotional visit to the grave of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County, pledging to keep alive the ideals they both championed.
Accompanied by former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, PLP Secretary-General Asha Bashir, and several women leaders, Karua laid flowers at the gravesite and described Raila as “a fearless patriot who dedicated his life to Kenya’s struggle for justice and constitutional freedom.”
“I came here to honour my comrade and brother in the long march for Kenya’s liberation,” she said. “We fought side by side for democracy and justice — at times from different fronts, but always with a shared purpose: the freedom and dignity of our people.”

Karua reaffirmed her commitment to continue Raila’s legacy, saying, “Rest well, Kinara. We will carry the torch forward.”
The leaders were received by Mama Ida Odinga at the Odinga homestead before proceeding to the gravesite, where they sang liberation songs, offered prayers, and reflected on Raila’s enduring influence on Kenya’s political journey.
Karua also recalled their shared struggles during the 1990s push for democracy, saying Raila’s legacy remains a reminder that “Kenya’s liberation work is unfinished and demands courage, unity, and integrity.”
Raila was buried on October 19, 2025, in a private ceremony attended by family, national leaders, and close allies.
