Catherine Kamau aka Kate actress, got her first kid when she was 19 and she explains that being a teen mom is not a bed of roses as people think. – By Sharon Maina
She got her first kid when she was in school but lucky for her her parents supported her.
“At some point, I was encouraging you that you’ll be okay. But I realised things turned out good for me because both of my parents were working and supported my child. I came to realize all of us are not the same.” Said Kate to the girls.
She told some girls in Kariokor that it is not okay to be a teen mum and bring a child in this world not knowing what one can offer them. She also told them not to get pregnant at an early age when they are not ready to have a baby since when one becomes pregnant, one becomes responsible for someone else and one becomes a burden to the parents.
Kate explained how the mum was disappointed in her whenshe came home pregnant and also the way she fell into depression since her baby daddy run away.
“I finished high school well then went to Kampala to study. Two months later, I came back with a baby degree. My mum was disappointed because she had sacrificed everything.” Kate said.
“When I first told her, she was crushed. She didn’t understand. I dropped out and raised the baby and of course the boyfriend ran away. So I was in depression. I cried every day for a whole year.” Kate added.
