Former Meru Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza has issued a scathing statement accusing local and national political elites of orchestrating her removal from office through what she describes as an “illegitimate and backdoor scheme.”

Mwangaza decried what she termed a systematic witch-hunt against her during her tenure as governor.

She accused a coalition of current and former leaders; including a former Meru Governor and ex-Cabinet Secretary of conspiring to remove her from office under the guise of seeking peace and unity.

“What followed was not unity, but deeper divisions, political intolerance, and betrayal of the public trust,” she said.

Mwangaza also expressed concern over the stalling of development projects her administration had initiated, saying the current leadership is more focused on political survival than service delivery.

Her popular community program, the Okolea Initiative, has reportedly been targeted by police disruptions, a move she termed undemocratic and harmful to the vulnerable residents of Meru.

With Meru set to host two major events this weekend a presidential field day for dairy farmers and a visit by opposition leaders, Mwangaza called for political tolerance and maturity.

While confirming she would attend the farmers’ event as a union member, she warned against politicizing the visit.

She also questioned the motives of the opposition leaders visiting Meru, asking why they had remained silent during what she described as her politically motivated ouster.

She revealed that the same political figures who lobbied for her removal have recently reached out seeking a political alliance, but she questioned their sincerity, asking them to account for their role in what she termed an “injustice against the will of the people.”

Mwangaza concluded with a call for calm and unity in Meru, urging residents to reject sub-ethnic division and political vendettas.

“The people of Meru still demand justice and the restoration of their Governor of choice. Their appeal is simple: right the wrong,” she stated.

Her remarks come amid growing political tensions in the county and renewed scrutiny over the legitimacy of leadership changes that have reshaped Meru’s political landscape.
